Jacksonville IL Car Accident – In a devastating early morning crash near Jacksonville, Illinois, two people have been confirmed dead and a third seriously injured following a head-on collision involving two vehicles in rural Morgan County.
The fatal incident occurred just after dawn along U.S. Highway 67 at the intersection with Woodson Winchester Road, a stretch of roadway that has been the focus of local safety concerns following multiple serious accidents in recent years. Two occupants of a passenger car were pronounced dead at the scene by the Morgan County Coroner. Their identities have not yet been released pending family notification.
A third person, also in the passenger car, suffered serious injuries and was transported by emergency medical services to a regional trauma centre for treatment. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released after evaluation.
Illinois State Police troopers, assisted by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders, closed the roadway for several hours as crews processed the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation into the cause of the collision. Initial findings suggest one vehicle may have failed to yield while attempting to cross the highway, resulting in the violent impact.
Local emergency response officials have declined to comment further while the investigation continues. Traffic safety advocates in the area have once again renewed calls for improvements at the intersection, citing a history of crashes and near-misses reported by commuters and residents.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Illinois State Police with information as the inquiry progresses. Memorial arrangements are pending, and community leaders are planning resources to support those affected by the tragedy.
